Recent Maintenance Log:

Monday, January 21, 2008 - W9FO and KB9WBM.  Recent nets have experienced varying signal levels.  RC-100 board removed and inspected and several solder points are touched up.  No apparent bad joints, cleaned up contacts and reseated all IC's.

Pot at LA-3 still suspect, event though replaced last February.  LA-3 now set to maximum counter-clockwise.  Will likely return to replace LA-3 (20K) again in the future.

Thursday, December 27, 2007 - W9FO, AB9OP and KB9WBM made additional adjustments to the receive to transmit audio settings (pot LA-3).  Overdriving appears to be occurring less frequently now but operators may still be able to over drive the system if their deviation is too strong.

All are encouraged to back off their mic's a little if they hear they are producing harsh output from the repeater.

Monday, February 26, 2007 - Reports of the repeater being off the air since Friday, February 23rd were investigated and corrected by W9FO.  The cause of the problem was the introduction of an air gap in the AC supply line, probably due to recent elevator maintenance.

For those unfamiliar with this type of air gap - its quite simple, the plug was disconnected from the AC outlet!!!!

Monday, February 19, 2007 - W9FO and KB9WBM replaced the potentiometer that adjusts the receiver to transmitter level.  For those interested, the repeater uses the RC-100 controller by Micro Computer Concepts.  The pot we replaced is referenced as LA-3.

Adjustment was made using a subjective/qualitative method rather than  by accurate  instrumented measurement.  While one operator provides a long count to the repeater, the operator adjusting the repeater trims the LA-3 pot while comparing the signal heard from the repeater and on the reverse.  You look to match the audio levels heard as closely as possible.

Many thanks to W9FO for what appears to be an accurate diagnosis and for sharing some the the maintenance task!

Saturday, December 16, 2006 - W9FO and KB9WBM adjusted the repeater controller's receiver to transmitter level.  Recently, members have notice that this level was set a bit too high and it was causing retransmitted audio to be overmodulated with some audio clipping.  Members should notice the same warm audio from this repeater without the harshness noticed during the last few week's nets.  Please bring feedback to the meeting on how this new setting is working out.
